GENERAL DE GAULLE - TRIP TO CAMEROON - 1953. - Lot 248
GENERAL DE GAULLE - TRIP TO CAMEROON - 1953. Album comprising ninety-five photographs, ninety-one of which depict General de Gaulle, during his visit to Cameroon in 1953, from the moment he stepped off the plane at Douala airport to an evening reception. The photographs are laminated. H_8.6 cm W_13.7 cm. With dispatch: "À notre chef bien aimé du territoire, son Excellence André Soucadaux, Respectueusement, cordialement, affectueusement, un ami sincère, Alexandre Drouet (?), Yaoundé, ce jeudi 23 avril 1953". Attached to this lot are four photographs showing Gaston Defferre (Former French Overseas Minister), a photograph of Jean Louis Marie André Soucadaux, during a trip to Dzaoudzi, Mayotte, and a portrait of the latter. H_11.7 cm W_17.1 cm. H_24.2 cm W_17.7 cm (portrait). Note: We attribute this shipment to Alexandre Drouet, a schoolteacher stationed in Madagascar from 1950 to 1961, at the same time as André Soucadaux, High Commissioner to Cameroon from 1950 to 1954, then High Commissioner to Madagascar from 1953 to 1961. It would seem that Alexandre Drouet gave this album to André Soucadaux in April 1953.
