Friedrich BEER (1846-1912). Bust of Count Elie de Comminges (1831-1894). Marble sculpture, signed and dated 1881. The base bears the Comminges-Borch coat of arms. H_80 cm W_64 cm D_37 cm. Presented on a molded wood column. H_106 cm W_40 cm D_39 cm. Elie de Comminges was a guide officer in the Imperial Guard. He then served in the Italian campaign as part of Emperor Napoleon III's escort squadron. His memoirs gives a vivid, sometimes comical picture of Gascony and traditional cavalry.
