Paris: Firmin Didot Frères, 1836 A paperback volume, printed cover featuring: half-title page, title page, (4), VIII pages of preface, XXIIJ pages of introduction, (1), 555 pages. First edition of this study, published posthumously (Champollion died in 1832) by the historian’s brother, Jacques-Joseph Champollion. Numerous hieroglyphs, printed in red and black using a combination of typography and lithography. Spine split in multiple places. Inscriptions on the spine and cover blackened with a pen. Marginal notes and comments in pencil throughout the text. Cover detached.
