A Book on Architecture containing the general principles of this art and the floor plans, elevations, and profiles of some of the buildings constructed in France and abroad, Paris, Guillaume Cavelier, 1745, bound with *Description of the Process Used to Cast in a Single Pour the Equestrian Statue of Louis XIV, Erected by the City of Paris in the Place de Louis le Grand*, Paris, Guillaume Cavelier, 1743. 2 works in one folio volume in full red morocco, with gilt borders and fleurs-de-lis on the covers, spine richly decorated with raised bands from (2), 99 pages, 69 plates, (3); then bound together: (3), 1 blank page, 63 pages (with added pages (45–46), (1), 21 plates (two plates XVII, two plates XVIII, double equestrian figure of Louis XIV). First edition of these two works by Germain Bonffrand (1667–1754), a French architect from Nantes to whom we owe—among many others—the Hôtel d’Aiguillon, the Hôtel Le Brun, the transformation of the Hôtel de Mayenne in Paris, numerous private mansions in Nancy, the City Hall of Joigny, and numerous castles throughout France... The architectural treatise presents his major projects, buildings, and works. The work is in French and Latin, enriched with intaglio plates engraved by P. Tardieu, de la Marquade (Marcade), Herisset, Le Geay, Blondel, C. Lucas, Fonbonne, Moreau, Mutel, and Babel; Vignette at the top of the Privilege engraved by Tardieu the Younger after F. Boucher. The Latin title page has been bound opposite the French one. Plate XXIII is missing. Rare. A fine copy, attractively bound. Ex-libris stamped “Serrant”
