SCIENCES] DIDEROT/D'ALEMBERT] Collection of plates from the new edition of the *Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers* with their explanations, Geneva, Pellet, 1778 3 volumes in-4 in full calfskin, ribbed spines, gilt decorations: Vol. I: 35 pages, 75 plates, 87 pages, 19 plates, 31 pages, 37 plates, 14 pages; Vol. II: 7 plates; II: 56 pages, 31 plates, 47 pages, 64 plates, 11 pages, 24 plates, 8 pages, 39 plates, 48 pages, 19 plates, 52 pages; III: 64 pages, 143 pages The engravings in the volumes (some marked as double, triple, or quadruple) are by Bernard Direx and Richomme. This set comprises more than 450 plates: 138 in the first volume, 177 in the second, and 143 pages in the last. Insect damage in the margins of Volume 1. Volume 1: page 5/6 of the “Marine” chapter, torn with a missing section. Two loose plates in Volume 3. Several page corners are missing from Volume 3. Dulled corners, rubbed caps, weakened bindings.
