Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). - Lot 289
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). Alabastre—January 17, (19)88. Terracotta vase with a slender neck, glazed in a technique known as “sigillata.” Signed and dated on the base. H_20 cm Provenance: private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle. Note: A ceramist from the Languedoc region who trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates sigillata pieces—first engobed and then smoked—with surfaces worked to achieve specific textures and crackles, which lend depth and uniqueness to his works.
