Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). - Lot 291
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004).
Tree.
Square bas-relief, decorated with a trunk and applied shards of engobed terracotta known as “sigillata.”
Unsigned.
H_35 cm W_35 cm
Provenance: private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle.
Note: A ceramist from the Languedoc region, trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates sigillata pieces—first engobed and then smoked—with surfaces worked to highlight their texture and crackle patterns, which lend depth and uniqueness to his works.
