Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). - Lot 294
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). Flared horn. Engobed terracotta, known as “sigillata.” Signed and dated February 16, (19)88 on the inside. H_19.5 cm W_10.5 cm D_8.5 cm Provenance: private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle. Note: A ceramist from Languedoc who trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates works in sigillata clay, first slip-coated and then smoked, with surfaces treated to highlight their texture and crackle patterns, which lend depth and uniqueness to his pieces.
