Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). - Lot 295
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). Large couple in an embrace. Double vase in engobed terracotta, known as “sigillata.” Signed. H_26 cm W_14.5 cm D_17 cm Provenance: private collection in Occitania, from a friend of Pierre Bayle. Note: A ceramist from the Languedoc region, trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates pieces made of sigillata clay, first engobed and then smoked, with surfaces worked to highlight their texture and crackle patterns, which lend depth and uniqueness to his works.
