Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). - Lot 296
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004).
A plump figure.
Engobed terracotta, known as “sigillata.”
H_14 cm W_8.5 cm D_8 cm, crackle glaze on the shoulder
Provenance: private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle.
Note: A ceramist from Languedoc who trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates works in sigillata clay—first engobed and then smoked—with surfaces worked to highlight their texture and crackle patterns, which lend depth and uniqueness to his pieces.
