Note: Thai painter, sculptor, and architect, born on September 27, 1939, in Chiang Rai. Trained at the Pohchang Academy and then at Silpakorn University under Silpa Bhirasri, he went on to study at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 1964 to 1968. Upon his return to Thailand, he caused a scandal with his unconventional vision of Buddhism, populated by Buddhas, demons, and beasts with large black swirls; several of his paintings were destroyed in 1971. In 1977, Count Hatzfeldt invited him to paint at his castle in Germany. His first exhibition in Japan took place in Fukuoka in 1990. He was named a National Artist of Thailand and received the Fukuoka Prize (Arts and Culture) in 2001.
