Pair of carved, white-lacquered wooden chairs. The backrest is shaped like a gendarme’s cap and rests on four fluted legs. Stamped “H. JACOB” for Henri Jacob, who was granted master status on September 29, 1779. Louis XVI period. H_102 cm W_62 cm D_70 cm. Silk upholstery with a pineapple motif. Henri Jacob was the first cousin of Georges Jacob and fourteen years his junior. A native of the Yonne region, he came to Paris to serve an apprenticeship under Georges, who was established as a master cabinetmaker.
