Joëlle NEVEU (1944–2007) Studio, Sculptor - Lot 0
Joëlle NEVEU (1944–2007) Studio, Sculptor Born on January 1, 1944, in Aix-en-Provence, Joëlle Neveu began drawing and developing her artistic talent at a very young age, seeking to break free from a strict social environment that showed little appreciation for art. She began her professional career as a designer for a lingerie brand, while simultaneously enrolling at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She began by painting in a figurative style, then discovered sculpture and embarked on a powerful body of work, particularly in marble, using the direct carving technique to create pieces that are as refined as they are tactile. In 1983, Peter Knapp photographed a black marble sculpture by Joëlle Neveu for Bulgari; the image became the centerpiece of an advertising campaign showcasing the brand’s jewelry in the international fashion press, notably *Vogue*. She began exhibiting as early as 1973 at the Rodin Museum for a group exhibition centered on Collamarini, and later at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1978, in Paris, Tokyo, Boston, and Dallas. She passed away in 2007 and was laid to rest at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
